Meet Snifflock

A curious bloodhound with a nose for a mystery, Snifflock is the Dog Detective at the heart of the Explorer Quest books. He brings the questions; you bring the detective work.

Each city introduces a companion with a personality of their own: Bobby in Edinburgh, Tam the Glasgow Cat, Monty the British Bulldog in London and Nessie in Inverness.

Created by a storyteller who loves exploring

The Great Explorer Quest was created by James Kennedy, a Scottish tour guide, author and former professional entertainer. His work brings together a love of places, stories and the little moments that make people laugh.

The idea behind the books is simple: give families a story they can step into. Children become investigators, grown-ups join the detective team, and the streets around you become part of the adventure.

Learning starts with a good question

What can you spot? Which detail matters? Does everyone agree with your answer? Each mission encourages explorers to look carefully, share ideas and use what they discover. Local history and stories give the puzzles a sense of place.

The illustrated characters bring humour and imagination to the journey. Snifflock takes his detective work seriously; his city companions make sure there is plenty of personality along the way.

A book, a city and time together

The book leads the adventure, with QR videos adding short moments of feedback and storytelling. Between scans, the focus is on the world around you: finding your way, studying the clues and working as a team.

Whether you are planning a holiday activity or rediscovering a place close to home, the aim is the same: leave with a shared story as well as photographs. See how an Explorer Quest works or find your next city adventure.
